August 2023 - Parasympathetic Nervous System Rest And Digest

August 15, 2023

A client wrote me that she was returning from her 9,000-mile car trip with her grandchildren and 100 miles from Portland she had a car accident. They are okay; however, the car was totaled.

She’s been to the doctor and I encouraged her to keep her reflexology appointment. Why? Because here’s how reflexology helps after a car accident and trauma.

When I reflex your feet, hands, and ears I’m working on your parasympathetic nervous system… the nervous system that helps you “rest and digest” vs. the sympathetic nervous system that is all about “fight or flight.” You know you’ve reached this helpful phase in the reflexology session when your breathing slows, your eyes close, your stomach may even rubble with digestive juices, and you deeply relax. This “rest and digest” phase is when the body can most help you heal.

That’s why most clients tell me they feel better after their session. Reflexology addresses the whole body.
