September 2023 - Self Care

September 12, 2023

What are you waiting for?

What did you do for yourself this summer? I’m talking about what did you do to revive your Body, Mind, and Spirit?

It’s called Self Care. The care you do for yourself to keep going. It’s not selfish, you know, it’s essential. Because after these last three years, things didn’t suddenly snap back to the good old days. My clients tell me how things aren’t better. And how you’re coping with much more.

Self Care is what sustains us while we take on the bigger load. Yes, when you come for reflexology that 60- or 75-minutes sustains you. But how do you take care of yourself between those sessions? That’s one of the reasons I wrote about using your heating pad on painful areas when you finally sit down. Yes, even sitting down and putting your feet up is precious Self Care.

So does getting lost in a book. Or bringing home a small bouquet of flowers just for you. It’s the little things we do for ourselves that keep us going.

It’s saying “No” when you mean “No” and saying “Yes” when you mean “Yes.”

It may mean giving yourself a break from radio, TV, the computer and even your phone for a day or two so there is actual space to think your own thoughts.

Self Care can be talking to the dog or feeding your hummingbird. It might mean finally taking that guitar class. Or putting your head on new pillowcases.

Only you know what will sustain you as we head into fall. It’s those small, personal things so easy to put off. So today, I’m asking you, “What are you waiting for?”
